Scandinavian Simplicity Meets Timeless Elegance: Inside Anna-Marie's Renovated Villa

Nestled just outside Copenhagen, Anna-Marie Fredmann (@ampatriciervilla_og_have) and her husband are in the midst of renovating their grand patrician villa. Their home, inspired by Scandinaviansimplicity and classic elegance, features a romantic garden brimming with fragrant roses and cosy nooks, creating a peaceful escape from the bustling world outside.

Anna-Marie’s approach to interior design is guided by two principles: simplicity and quality. She describes her style as minimalistic, Scandinavian, and classic, heavily influenced by Feng Shui principles. ’I am easily influenced by energy,’ the Danish creator explains. ’Therefore, for me, it is important to minimise.’

The minimalistic approach is reflected throughout the house. Yet, the home still gives off a warm and inviting feeling. The absence of clutter and vibrant colours allows each carefully chosen piece of furniture and decor to have its moment, creating a sense of thoughtful curation in every room. The walls, floor, and interior blend together in a palette of beige, grey, and white. ‘We don't have many things that disturb the eye and our energy. I think it’s important for the eye to have something to rest on. That’s why we focus on good materials, neutral and calm colors, she continues.

‘It’s all in the details, but I’d rather have one curated detail than a thousand that are not thought through’, Anna-Marie states. ‘That’s also how I add the personal touch, by carefully choosing things that have meaning to me. It could be something as simple as a vase with my favourite flowers.’ The attention to detail is also reflected in the selection of high-quality materials, both in terms of carpentry and interior design. ‘You can see and feel the difference when choosing a piece that is handcrafted and made from good, high-quality materials.’ Anna-Marie continues, ‘not only do those pieces last a lifetime, but you also don’t need a hundred different pieces; that one wow piece is enough to make a statement.’

Comfort meets Design: Creating the Perfect Bedroom

When planning the bedroom, Anna-Marie and her husband prioritised creating a neutral, timeless, and relaxing space. ‘I wanted to create the feeling of entering a sanctuary, she says. With a busy life much revolving around creating content and her husband running his own firm, the couple felt a need to create a peaceful place where they could 'escape' from the daily hustle and bustle. ‘Therefore, as in the rest of our interior design, we have used neutral colours and wall panelling to capture that timeless elegance while keeping the room understated and neutral.’

Taking centre stage in their bedroom is the Härmanö continental bed, a classic double bed with two separate layers of pressure-relieving springs. The bed is dressed in the Asuri Cashew fabric, paired with a matching Solö headboard and Kobbe footstool. The fabric has a slight sheen that complements the shine of the brass Reling bed legs.

'The Holme nightstand is a beautiful piece of furniture that could also be used as a side table in the living room’.

‘I’m in love with the luxurious comfort and look of the bed’, Anna-Marie gushes. When searching for the perfect bed, a modern yet classic look was on top of the wish list, together with high-quality materials. The Solö headboard was chosen because of its smooth and minimalistic appearance. To keep the modest colour scheme the couple chose the linen-blend Asuri fabric in the colour Cashew. A sophisticated yet durable fabric from The Romo Group and a part of Carpe Diem Beds Exclusive Collection.

Complementing the luxurious bed is the Holme nightstand, a modern and sleek piece made of steel with a shelf creating a large practical storage compartment. Anna-Marie notes, ‘the Holme nightstand is a beautiful piece of furniture that could also be used as a side table in the living room’.

A Hotel Feeling at Home

Anna-Marie has perfected the art of creating a hotel-like experience at home. According to her, fluffy down pillows and duvets create ‘one of the most luxurious feelings in the world’. The bedroom has been designed to resemble a five-star hotel. ‘If you have your own secret escape at home, why would you need to go anywhere else?’ she jokes as she shows us her bedroom. However, the benefits of down extend beyond aesthetics. The lightweight natural material allows for breathability and lets excess body heat escape, ensuring an ideal sleeping temperature. To perfect the hotel look, Anna-Marie recommends layering decorative pillows of various sizes and shapes to add dimension and a personal touch to the bed.

‘Our bedroom feels like a little piece of heaven’.

The outcome of the bedroom reflects Anna-Marie's vision; a harmonious space with neutral colours, thoughtfully curated lighting, and carefully chosen materials. ‘The bedroom feels like a little piece of heaven. The grand bed completes the feeling of serenityand luxury I was looking for, and it complements the bedroom so nicely in a unique way. For us, it’s more than just a bed; it’s where we recharge our batteries. Each thing in this bedroom has been carefully selected to contribute to that feeling of pure tranquillity.’

Anna-Maries tips for creating a hotel-like bedroom

Embrace a Neutral Colour Palette
To create a calm and elegant hotel-like bedroom, choose neutral earth-toned colours or
those found in nature, such as blues and greens. These colours create a peaceful atmosphere and serve as an ideal setting for a restful sleep.

Choose Timeless Pieces
Select furniture and decor that are not only beautiful but also made from high-quality
materials. A statement piece, like a handcrafted bed or a sleek nightstand, can
elevate the room's overall look and feel.

Layer for Luxury and Comfort
Recreate the plush, inviting feel of a five-star hotel bed by using fluffy down pillows
and duvets. Add decorative pillows of various sizes and shapes to enhance dimension and comfort. This layering not only adds a touch of elegance but also ensures a comfortable and personalised sleeping environment.

Invest in a High-Quality Bed
Who would rate a hotel five stars if the bed was uncomfortable? The bed is the centrepiece of any hotel bedroom, so investing in a high-quality bed is essential. Look for a bed that combines comfort with design. Go for high-quality fabrics and materials that not only look beautiful but also provide lasting durability and comfort. A well-chosen bed will provide you with years and years of restful sleep.
