Now that the days are getting shorter and cooler we are all looking inward to our homes to make them extra cosy and warm as we approach winter. While the leaves are turning into stunning shades of red and orange, most of us want to huddle up and maybe even snooze a bit longer in bed. Here are some useful tips for creating a cosy bedroom sanctuary and getting a good night's sleep during the colder months.
1. Embrace the cold – and sleep better
Winter can be the best time for quality sleep, provided you are prepared for it. You may think that it is too cold and dark to have a good night's sleep, but the truth is that our bodies naturally adjust to colder temperatures, and we tend to sleep better in winter than in summer.
According to our Chief Sleep Officer Sanjay Verma, the three most important factors for high sleep quality are a cold, quiet and dark bedroom environment. In other words – you should not underestimate the benefits of lower bedroom temperatures.
Not only for the benefit of your energy bills, but also for your sleep health. The ideal temperature for sleeping is around 16 - 18°C.
2. Turn your bed into a warm and fluffy nest
Tuck yourself in with the fluffiest down duvets and pillows. Down is one of nature's best insulators – it traps air, making it warm without creating too much heat. Duvets made from down are perfect for keeping warm on cold nights as they won’t retain body heat like synthetic materials do.
Also – if you are using one of our luxury mattress toppers, now is the time to flip your mattress over to the warmer woollen side. You will be amazed by the difference it makes.
3. Cosy up – even outside of bed
Feeling a bit chilly before bedtime? There’s no need to go to bed early to stay warm. As you unwind from the day, indulge yourself by making a cup of soothing herbal tea, lighting a scented candle, and slipping into something warm and comfortable.
Our big faux fur throws are perfect for snuggling up with a book or movie on the couch, while our silk robes and soft slippers combine luxury with comfort in the most elegant way.
4. Cover the floor with rugs
Whether you are decorating a new residence or redecorating your master bedroom, there is no better way to make it feel warm and at home more than with a carpet or rug. Not only does a fluffy rug keep your feet warm on cold winter nights, but it also adds a layer of softness and cosiness that can’t be replicated by any other product.
Our luxurious bedroom rugs are not only pleasant to look at and soft to step on, they also stop soundwaves from bouncing around the room, which is another factor that contributes to a good night’s sleep.
5. Decorate for the season
Although your bed from Carpe Diem Beds will retain its classic appeal for many years to come, you should not let that stop you from embellishing it with modern and seasonal touches.
Embrace the changing seasons by adding a vibrant blanket or trendy, decorative pillows to your bed. Have fun with different duvet covers throughout the year. Instead of using light linens, opt for darker shades like black or blue. These additions will add a visual “warmth” to your bedroom and make it feel cosier and more inviting.
